What is Hedging?
Hedging is placing a second bet on the opposite outcome to lock in a guaranteed profit regardless of the result. It's commonly used when a parlay is down to its final leg, when futures bets are close to paying out, or when you want to reduce risk on a large wager.
When to Hedge
Parlay final leg: Your 4-leg parlay has 3 winners and the last fight is about to start. You can hedge the opposite fighter to guarantee profit no matter who wins.
Futures positions: You bet on a fighter to win the title at +800 before the season. They're now in the title fight. Hedging the opponent locks in profit.
Live betting: You bet pre-fight and your fighter is dominating. The live odds have shifted dramatically — hedging now captures that value.
The Trade-Off
Hedging guarantees profit but reduces your maximum upside. You're trading potential for certainty. Whether to hedge is a personal decision based on your risk tolerance and bankroll management strategy. There's no wrong answer — it depends on what the guaranteed money means to you.
